Indian archers’ quest for glory ended on a dismal note in the recurve individual elimination competitions at the World Championships in Leipzig, Germany, on Thursday.
Veteran Dola Banerjee disappointed the most as she crashed out in the first level itself.
The Arjuna awardee lost to Simona Bancila of Romania in a close encounter. As both archers shot an identical score of 104, the clash went into a tie-breaker where Bancila won 8-7.
L Bombayala Devi was the most successful of the Indian women in fray. She won two levels before falling to top-seeded Sung-Hyun Park of Korea 95-107.
Earlier, the Indian defeated Magali Foulon of Spain (104-100) and Karen Scarotto of the United States (105-103).
Chekrovolu Swuro could clear only one level. She defeated S B Molnar of Hungary (103-99) before going down to Elena Tonetta of Italy (105-108).
In the men’s competition, all the Indians in fray — Tarundeep Rai, Rahul Banerjee and Somai Murmu — won a level each before bowing out of the tournament.
