Prakash-Aisam ousted
New Delhi, PTI:

Prakash Amritraj and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi were knocked out of the men’s doubles competition following a straight-set loss to top seeds Wesley Moodie and Fabrice Santoro at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport, Rhode Islands.

South African Moodie and Frenchman Santoro, downed the Indo-Pak wildcards 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals of the $416,000 event on Wednesday.

Qureshi, reached his maiden ATP Tour quarterfinals after beating lucky loser Nathan Healy of Australia 7-6 (7-2), 5-7, 6-4 in the second round.  The Pakistani takes on Dick Norman of Belgium next.

Gasquet advances
Richard Gasquet, Paul-Henri Mathieu and Gael Monfils completed a perfect day for French players at the Swiss Open on Thursday when all three progressed to the quarters, adds Reuters from Gstaad.

Following sixth seed Marc Gicquel’s second round victory on Wednesday, French players now account for half of the remaining eight places in the draw.

Gasquet, the defending champion and third seed, saw off Belgian Kristof Vliegen 6-3, 6-4 to set up a quarterfinal meeting with Russian wild card Igor Andreev.

Other results:
Paul-Henri Mathieu (Fra) bt Feliciano Lopez (Esp) 4-6, 6-4, 7-6; Gael Monfils (Fra) Jiri Vanek (Cze) 6-1, 6-4.
Moya in quarters

Fourth seed Carlos Moya gave local hope Thomas Johansson a claycourt lesson at the Swedish Open with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in a battle of former Grand Slam winners on Thursday, adds Reuters from Bastad.

The Spanish fourth seed and 1998 French Open champion overpowered Johansson from the baseline and was never challenged by the Swede, who won the Australian Open in 2002.

In the quarterfinals, Moya takes on sixth seed Robin Soderling, the last Swede left in the draw after a marathon 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 win over Fernando Verdasco.

Moya was joined in the last eight by compatriot David Ferrer, the second seed, who overcame Chilean Nicolas Massu 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Ferrer takes on Gilles Simon after the Frenchman ousted Argentine seventh seed Juan Monaco 6-4, 6-4.
