The Janata Dal (S) Legislature Party will meet on July 17 to decide whether to support UPA’s presidential nominee Ms Pratibha Patil or independent candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
A decision to defer the final decision on presidential election was taken during the Legislature Party meeting held at Chief Minister’s home office ‘Krishna’ in Bangalore on Thursday morning, in which party’s national president H D Deve Gowda took part.
The meeting decided to wait as the United National Progressive Alliance (earlier known as Third Front) is expected to announce its decision in this regard by July 17. It was also said that the meeting discussed the possibility of cross-voting by legislators of various political parties in the presidential election irrespective of their party’s decision.
