The City police has foiled an attempt to murder a trio in broad daylight near the busy Mayo Hall area on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, the alert police in disguise foiled the bid of seven ‘supari’ killers to eliminate three persons over a financial dispute.
The police team headed by DCP BNS Reddy and ACP BB Ashok Kumar nabbed the seven accused identified as Rajan, Christopher, Anand, Albert, Naveen, Venkatesh and Ravi who were planning to execute Praveen, Poornesh and Raghu all residents of Chikmagalur district near Mayo Hall Court at around 1.45 pm on Thursday.
The main accused Christopher, who runs Trinity Associates Private Limited, a financial firm had befriended Praveen and borrowed Rs 30 lakhs from him in August 2006, and not repaid it despite being pressurised by the latter to return it.
On May 29, Christopher visited Chikmagalur and paid him Rs 2 lakhs and promised to pay the remaining Rs 28 lakh in a month’s time after selling a property at Rammurthy nagar. However, he did not keep his promise. After being pressurised further to return the amount, Christopher had conveyed to Praveen that he would hand over the General Power of Attorney (GPA) of his property to him in return of the money he had borrowed.
He had asked Praveen to come over to Mayo Hall Court on Thursday at around 1.45 pm assuring him that he would hand over the GPA to him there. Meanwhile, he had planned to execute him and his two associates when they came to collect the GPO. Christopher had hired a gang of six to kill the trio for this purpose.
A deal of Rs 2 lakh was struck between Christopher and the supari killers and Rs 25,000 was paid as advance. However, the plan was foiled by the police who arrested the accused on Residency Road and Brigade Road.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, DCP BNS Reddy said the police have averted a major conspiracy through timely intervention and recovered Rs 25,000 cash, a country-made revolver, four rounds of .303 bullets, five hatchets, eight mobile phones and three vehicles including one Mahendra Scorpio, Toyoto Innova and a Maruti 800 that was used to ferrying the accused.
