For those of you who equate healthy food to being non-appetising, Kilo Kurry in Indiranagar might just be the place which will make you think otherwise. The ambience may not be your idea of a fancy place but the food might just be to your liking. With the restaurant claiming that they completely shun away from preservatives and artificial colouring, the food cooked is much like what you would get at home and very reasonably priced. Which is why it draws in a large crowd on all days.
“Food that is good for health can be tasty as well. Taste wrapped in low calorie, high-fibre food... that’s the image we are attempting to create. Most of the dishes are grilled which takes care of the health aspect but we do have an option of the fried method for those who prefer it that way. The idea is to create a balance,” says Gregory Lobo, Chef Patron.
Kilo Kurry, as it is popularly called, has two other brands under its’ umbrella — China Express and Hot Chik. In all, they serve Indian food that includes everything from dal roti to a complete combo meal, the entire Chinese spread and grilled chicken. “Meals are popular and we change the menu everyday. In the Chinese menu, we have replaced the combo with Rice Bowl and Noodle Bowl, which is, in itself a meal. In this, we have the low calorie rice or noodle with stir fried vegetable sauce that can be dished out to suit the Indian taste as well,” says Lobo.
Go for the Noodle Bowl which is definitely a better option to its rice counterpart and the multi grain roti is a must try. Among the snacks, Spring roll is again, a must. Despite being grilled, the taste is retained and is light on the stomach. For those who love paneer, try the Panner wrap — paneer stuffed with chopped vegetables or meat and fried. “We don’t want snacks interrupting the main course so we make it available only between 3 pm and 7 pm. And everyday we come up with something new and yes, health is an important aspect which we try and incorporate everytime. But we also have plenty for those who like their food rich,” adds Lobo.
Sea food is brought in fresh from the market and not only can customers pick their choice of sea food but also get it cooked to suit their taste. Rotis are priced between Rs 9 and 15, a combo meal would cost Rs 40 onwards and a chinese meal would be Rs 65 onwards. Quick food at an affordable price is what Kilo Kurry offers. The restaurant is at 23/32, Michael Palya, Indiranagar, 80 Ft Road, New Thippasandra Post. Ph: 25256571.
