Prakash Amritraj entered the quarterfinals of the $416,000 Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis championships at Newport in Rhode Island, beating American wildcard Scoville Jenkins 6-4, 6-3.
The Indian, who beat Serbian Ilia Bozoljac 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of the grasscourt tournament, ke-pt his good form going to enter the last eight for the first time.
Prakash, who is ranked 467th in the world and had to qualify for the tournament, next faces fifth-seeded Fren-chman Nicolas Mahut for a place in the semifinals.
The 83rd-ranked Mahut, who beat world number two Rafael Nadal in the semifinal at Queen’s Club last month before losing to American Andy Roddick in the title match, beat compatriot Antony Dupuis 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 to move into the quarterfinals.
Moya in semis
Fourth seed Carlos Moya continued his impressive run at the Swedish Open on Friday by easily dispatching local hope Robin Soderling 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, adds Reuters from Bastad.
The former world number one needed 69 minutes against the Swedish sixth seed to reach his third semifinal in four appearances here, having won the Bastad tournament in 2002.
“That was my best match here for this year,” Moya told reporters.
The Mallorcan, who beat Morocco’s Younes El Aynaoui in the final five years ago, broke the Swede three times during the match to set up an all-Spanish encounter in the semifinals with Nicolas Almagro.
Almagro overcame Peru’s Luis Horna 7-5, 6-4.
