In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Patil also urged the Centre to set up a committee to study the impact of SEZs in and around Bangalore besides evolving a policy to limit sanction of Government assets not exceeding Rs 50 crore taking into consideration the market value to any individual or firms or a group of people.
Mr Patil also claimed that transfer of Government properties to the firms developing the SEZ is contrary to Article 38 and 39 of the Constitution which clearly envisages that wealth should not get concentrated with one person or group of persons.
Stating that he was shocked to know the decision of the SEZ Board of Approval in granting approval in principle for Nandagudi project, Mr Patil said the approval granted needs careful and transparent scrutiny and evaluation.
He also pointed out the SEZs are being approved without any study being conducted on the environmental impact and ignoring social and economic concerns.
