Action for not filing FIRs
SC seeks norms on punishing police
New Delhi, DHNS:
The Supreme Court on Monday asked what action should be taken against the police for not filing an FIR of a complainant despite repeated pleas in the cognizable offence cases?

According to an advocate, the  Uttar Pradesh police failed to initiate action when the 16 year-old-girl of a security guard went missing on the intervening night of May 5-6, 2008 in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh.

The advocate said Bhola Kamat went to the Loni Police station, where the policemen instead of registering the FIR allegedly threatened him of dire consequences.

While issuing notices to the Centre, all states and union territories, a bench headed by Justice B N Agrawal asked the Union Home Ministry, Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of all states and UTs to file their replies. Filing petition on behalf of the minor daughter of Kamat, advocate Pravesh sought the direction of the court for immediate production of the kidnapped girl before the court and prosecution against the kidnappers.

The petition alleged that Vikram Chaudhary and his relatives from Illaichipur in Ghaziabad had kidnapped the girl as her father demanded refund of the money from them which he had given for a piece of land in Ghaziabad.
