The activists attached to Mysooru Kannada Vedike staged a protest led by MLA M K Somashekhar opposing the thermal power plant proposed in Chamalapura village of HD Kote taluk, in front of Mahathma Gandhiji’s statue, adjacent to the law courts, here on Sunday.
They raised slogans against the government and demanded that the plant be set up in Hassan. A whopping
3,000 acres of cultivable land would be acquired for the purpose and also the project would prove detrimental to the health of people of Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts, they argued.
Gunashekhar, Ravi, Vinod, Sunil, Ramaswamy, Mahesh, Raju, Niranjana, Jogi Manju and others took part in the protest.
