Trench may prove costly for wild animals
DH News Service, Chikmagalur:

Environmentalists have alleged that the construction of trench in the Muthodi reserve forest will cause inconvenience to the wild animals.

They said the Muthodi reserve forest was closed for the tourist for one month as July is the breeding period for animals. But various works undertaken at the reserve forest continues as usual.

Trenches have been dug from Jagara village to the reserve forest. Heavy vehicles are used for the purpose. Will it not disturb the animals, they questioned.

Owing to the negligence of the forest department, many huge trees have been felled. As per the Wildlife Act, no trees should be felled. Five feet trench will be an hindrance to the free movement of the wild animals, they said.
“If animals get trapped in the trench, it will find difficult to climb,” they said and added that such animals will fall prey to the hunters.
