Upset that despite regular warnings that telecom operators have not adhered to quality of service (QoS) norms, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) directed them to work out an action plan for achieving the stipulated QoS.
The directive came following rounds of meetings between TRAI and the operators in the last few days, during which the regulator made its annoyance known to the latter regarding the issue.
TRAI officials said it had been closely monitoring the performance of service providers against the QoS benchmarks through quarterly performance monitoring reports (PMRs) received from them. “The analysis of the PMRs indicates that some of the service providers are not meeting the QoS benchmarks in respect of some of the parameters,” TRAI said.
TRAI undertakes objective assessment of the QoS of basic and cellular mobile services through an independent agency.
Based on the analysis of performance monitoring reports of service providers and report submitted by independent agency for the four quarters in the year 2006-07, service providers were informed by TRAI about shortfall in achieving certain benchmarks of QoS parameters specified in the regulation on Quality of Service of Basic and Cellular Mobile Telephone Services, 2005 (11 of 2005).
