Eminent Islamic scholar and Imam of Noorani Masjid, Syed Anzar Shah Qasmy, on Monday, said polygamy in Islam has been portrayed in poor light, while it has been permitted for Muslims with certain strong conditions.
He was speaking during a seminar on ‘polygamy in Islam’, which was organised by Anjuman Funkaran-e-Urdu in the City, on Sunday.
Speaking on the the “atrocities committed by western world” on Muslims, the scholar said people are spreading misconception about Islam these days due to which Muslims appear like terrorists, while no one is calling the western world the real perpetrators of terror.
Further, the Imam of Noorani Masjid said, it has been projected that Muslims are making use of the permission for four marriages and are increasing their population. It is alleged that Muslims are doing wrong by going for polygamy.
“The reality is that there is a strict condition to marry more than one woman - the Muslims should have to take care of all his wives equally without a bit of partiality,” said the Imam.
He said, if people are caught in difficult situation and are left with any two awkward options then, they will choose the lesser evil. With vulgarity and prostitution increasing in the society, youngsters are vulnerable to it, said the Imam.
He added that there are two challenges before youth- prostitution and polygamy, youngsters will opt for the small challenge, which is polygamy.
