With corporation elections round the corner, renaming of parks, libraries and social gathering places are on war footing.
On Monday, hundreds of people took out a protest march and gathered in front of Banashankari police station protesting against the renaming of Kavi Katte, opposite Venkateshwara Swamy temple in Padmanabha Nagar.
“It was named Kavi Katte. After Rajkumar's death we installed a brass statue of the matinee idol and called it Raj Katte,” said a protestor.
“Now, since the corporation elections are approaching, some BJP activists want to rename it as Ashok Katte. We have slogged to convert this place to what it is today. We will not allow it to be renamed after a politician,” he added. Sources told Deccan Herald, in the neighbouring ward a botanical park has been renamed as Ashoka Vana.
