: President A P J Abdul Kalam will be given a formal farewell by members of Parliament led by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on July 23 at a function in Parliament, with presentation of scroll signed by all MPs to him forming the highlight of the ceremony.
Dr Manmohan Singh on Monday went to Parliament’s Central Hall specifically to sign the scroll, which expresses gratitude to Mr Kalam for the work done during his stint as the President. The first signature on the scroll will be by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, followed by that of Dr Singh.
The signatures of LS Deputy Speaker, RS Deputy Chairman, Leader of the two Houses, Leaders of the Opposition in the two Houses, the UPA and NDA chairpersons and other MPs will follow. The farewell function of Mr Kalam will be held a day before he demits office as President.
