The Sun TV network, owned by Maran brothers, which is bracing for competition from Kalaignar TV, to be launched by the family of their uncle and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, is embroiled in a row with Zee Turner Ltd over dues from its multi-system Sumangali Cable Vision ( SCV).
Kalaignar TV, set for launch probably on the birth anniversary of DMK’s founder C N Annadurai on Sept 15, is gearing up for an all-out war with the Sun Network, following the split between the family of Mr Dayanidhi Maran and Mr Karuanidhi.
The Sun network's strength is its reach, thanks to the near-monopoly enjoyed by Sumangali Cable Vision.
For the first time since Mr Maran was eased out of the Union Cabinet, that monopoly is sought to be challenged.
Zee Turner Limited, which owns a series of entertainment channels like Cartoon Network, POGO, HBO, CNBC 18, Zee Cinema and Zee TV, has announced that its channels might go off the television screens in Tamil Nadu if the Sumangali Cable Vision does not clear dues of over Rs 2.73 crore.
