The silent wail of our marine life  
A source of protein-rich fat, sometimes to feed the hungry fisher folk, and at times to grease their boats, or simply to be sold as curios. That is the plight of marine life. Mechanised trawlers add to their woes... Annie Kurian traces the sorry plight of turtles, porpoises and dolphins off the Indian coast.
This is not a case of voluntary dieting!  
A rapidly changing Arctic has forced whales to change feeding habits and explore new, dangerous terrains. With food getting scarce, these mammals are shedding weight alarmingly.
Good for heart & bones  
Research suggests that a healthy body needs more exposure to sunlight which is the most abundant source of Vitamin D. And Vitamin D not only gives you good bones but protects your heart and keeps away cancer. The Indian population shows low levels of the vitamin.
Plastics from garbage  
Most bioplastics are made from plants like corn, soy, sugar cane and switch grass, but scientists have recently turned to trash in an effort to make so-called green polymers.
