"It is tough to find a place in the middle-order, and, well, I have had a lot of disappointments in the last couple of years. I also know that the guys who are ahead of me have played a lot Test cricket, so I am just looking forward to playing in the next game, whether it is a side game, a Test or a one-day," Yuvraj said.
Important tour
However, his desire to play in the Test matches has been too obvious. "It is one of the most important tours of my life. This is the first time I am here for the Test series. You never know when you will return to England the next time," he said.
"I was out with injury (ligament tear during last year's Champions Trophy) for a while, and it is tough to get into our middle-order. After the World Cup and Bangladesh tour, it is a bit of a gap for me, but I have played two side games, and the preparation has been good for me. I am looking forward to whatever games I play in this series," he added.
The elegant southpaw also defended the top-order batsmen who are yet to fire on all cylinders. "You can't make judgments based on two matches. It is tough coming here and getting into the groove in two matches. Our top-order had done well in Bangladesh. You have to give a bit more time and hopefully we will deliver," he said.
He also had a word of comfort for Wasim Jaffer, who has been struggling for runs so far in this tour. "Every cricketer goes through a lean phase and Jaffer has a lot of cricket left in him. He batted well in the second innings. Hopefully, he can build on it," he said.
Preparations
On his preparations for the tour, Yuvraj said, "If I had got a chance to bat a few more overs, it would have been better. I got out after I was settled. I have to learn from it and move forward. We are looking forward to the Lord's Test; the batsmen and bowlers have been working on their areas very hard. We are happy about the last two practice games."
