Prakash climbs to 335th spot
Prakash Amritraj reaped the rewards for reaching his maiden ATP quarterfinals by registering a jump of 132 spots in his world ranking.
Prakash, who reached the last eight at the Hall of Fame Championships at Newport, climbed from 467th to 335th. Karan Rastogi, who won the ITF Futures tournament in Morocco, is ranked 363rd in the world.
Chile outclass Nigeria
Chile crushed Nigeria 4-0 in the Under-20 World Cup to set up a semifinal clash against holders Argentina, who defeated Mexico 1-0, reports Reuters from Toronto.
All four of Chile’s goals came in extra-time with Mauricio Isla on target twice after the game had finished goalless in regular time.
Six minutes into extra-time, Chile took the lead when Hans Martinez crossed to Jaime Grondona to head home. Isla struck from the penalty spot a minute half-time and then scored again three minutes after the restart. Mathias Vidangossy completed the extra-time rout.
In the other match, Maximiliano Moralez grabbed the winner for Argentina on the stroke of half-time with a drive which deflected in off Julio Cesar Dominguez.
Argentina will face Chile on Thursday, while Wednesday’s semifinal features Austria and the Czech Republic.
Man United set to sign Tevez
Manchester United chief executive David Gill expects West Ham's Argentine striker Carlos Tevez to join the English Premier League champions "in the course of the next week or so," reports Reuters from Tokyo. Injured Sinkewitz pulls out of Tour
German Patrik Sinkewitz has pulled out of the Tour de France with a broken nose and a shoulder injury after his collision with a spectator, reports Reuters from Tignes in France.
The T-Mobile rider was still in hospital on Monday, the team said. Sinkewitz was hurt in a high-speed collision with a spectator as he rode to the team hotel after Sunday's eighth stage.
The spectator had been flown to Grenoble hospital in a serious condition, organisers said.
After a rest day on Monday, the Tour resumes from Val d'Isere on Tuesday.
Lankan President lauds Murali
President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa is the latest in line to pay his tribute to Muttiah Muralitharan after the 35 year-old became only the second man in the history to reach the milestone of 700 Test wickets, reports UNI from Colombo.
The President described the off-spinner’s milestone as ‘’a great achievement and a great honour to the country and to a nation which entered the Test arena only about 25 years ago.’’
He presented Muralitharan with a memento for reaching the milestone at a special banquet to the Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket teams.
