Besides, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, top police and intelligence officials including those from the naxal affected districts-Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Udupi and Mangalore- would attend the meeting. Describing the looting of four houses near Agumbe, on Sunday, as a dastardly act, Mr Prakash observed that it was expected from the naxals.
“In the wake of killing of four naxals last week, we were expecting that they would take retaliatory steps”, he added.
Mr Prakash assured the House that he would hold a separate discussion with the leaders of the Opposition and also legislators from other naxal-affected areas in the state.
To instill confidence among the people, he would also visit the areas after the Tuesday’s meeting, he added. Stating that an organised fight was needed against naxalism, Mr Prakash regretted that some individuals who posed themselves as “progressives” extended their support to naxals.
Security for MLA
Earlier, raising the issue, Mr Araga Jnanendra MLA, Thirthahalli (BJP) said that following a threatening calls given by naxals, five constables had been deployed for his security.
He sought the total revamping of the police department to combat the threat posed by naxals.
He said that following the Sunday’s incident, people were very much frightened. “They are so frightened that they are not willing to seek help from police”, he added. Expressing their deep concern over increasing naxal activities in the Malnad districts, Mr Halappa (BJP) and Mr Prabhakar Bangera (BJP) added that even legislators are being threatened by them. They demanded the setting up of more police stations in the affected places.
