Security stepped up in Agumbe

In the wake of Naxals looting 4 houses at Gubbiga-Tallurangadi, Additional Director General of Police Shankar Bidari and Commandant of Anti Naxal Squad A M Prasad who is also IG of West Range visited Agumbe, on Monday.

SP Arun Chakravarthy and Additional SP Siddaramappa are camping at Agumbe. ADG took details about security arrangements and combing operation in the region. Strategy to curb Naxal menace in the region was discussed on the occasion. ADG who spoke to persons from surrounding villages assured them of security and protection. ADG also suggested Police to strengthen intelligence network and to involve local people in operation against Naxals, sources informed.
Meanwhile 4 separate complaints have been lodged at Thirthahalli Police station against the incident.
Residents who were initially reluctant, later lodged a complaint on Sunday evening. Based on statements from residents of houses which were looted, Police have estimated that cash, rifle, gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 4.5 lakh has been looted in the incident, sources informed.
