Municipality workers began an indefinite strike in front of City Municipal Office, urging the authority concerned to fulfil their demands, in the town, on Monday. “We have started the agitation following the call given by the Association, it will continue till our demands are fulfiled” protesters informed.
They demanded the authority concerned to implement the recommendations of 5 pay commission even for municipal workers. Their other demands include regularisation of their services, and the ban of tender system.
The workers had began their protest from July 1 wearing a black badge during their work, they had even submitted a memorandum to the government in this regard, they said.
Moreover, the Association members had even met the Minister for Municipal Administration on July 6, and the Minister had assured that the demands would be fulfiled by July 15. But, the demands haven’t been fulfiled till now so far, association leaders said.
Hence, the protest has been started as a last option, they added. City Unit Association President Narasimhappa, Secretary V Ramachandrappa, Vice-President Venkatamma, Srikanth, Manjunath and others participated in the protest. All employees were present on the occasion.
In KGF too, the workers protested.Nearly 200 protesters warned that they would not continue their work from July 16 onwards, said Association president A J Vijay Kumar, and Secretary S John.
The CMC workers at Gouribidanur too held the protest. Association president Venkatapati, office bearers M C Narayan, S Gangadhar, G A Chandra, Shrinivas, Chalapati, Govind and others led the protest. Association president Venkatapathi stressed for confirmation in jobs for these workers and several other demands. The strike was held at Shidlaghatta and Malur too.

The Karnataka Dalit Worker’s Association has supported the indefinite strike of CMC workers. District vice president Hulkur Venkatesh, taluk president Munivenkatappa, vice president Yalesandra Nagarajappa and others have supported the srike, the Association said in a release.
