Chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Justice, Zilla Panchayat Chanduru Venkatesh and member Balaji Chennaiah have expressed their unhappiness over the students’ hostels which come under the Department of Social Welfare.
According to them, these hostels had taken additional money from the students during the time of admission to the hostels. However, they have failed to return back the additional sum to the students, after the completion of their academic year.
Disclosing this to media persons here on Tuesday, the members of the ZP expressed their dissatisfaction over the fact these hostels had failed to return back the additional fees to the students.
They said, the amount received from the students had been deposited in a joint account and once the students completed their course, it was the duty of the officers concerned to return back the amount.
However, most of the times, the students returned back home empty handed. They further said, the facilities available under 18 per cent scheme of the State government, for the benefit of the weaker section, should not be misused for any other purpose.
However, it was found out that these officials utilised the amount received under this scheme for some other purpose. The members stated that they would urge the Government to take action against those officials who erred in their duties.
The amount received under the 18 per cent scheme of the Government to undertake developmental activities in Yalaburgi, Nernahalli and several other villages which come under Karahalli Gram Panchayat in Bangarpet taluk, had been transferred to some other scheme.
Not just the secretaries of the Gram Panchayat, but also, the president and the members were also equally responsible for this, the members opined.
