Rain receded to some extent on Tuesday, compared to the sound and fury it shown on Monday. However, the district as a whole has received fair rainfall.
Puttur received the highest rainfall in the district, that is, 160 mm. Meanwhile, Bantwal received 148 mm, Belthangady 115.4 mm, Uppinangady 105 mm, Sullia 98.6 mm, Bajpe 92 mm and Mangalore got the least rainfall, that is 81.6 mm.
The apprehension of people living near rivers, which were overflowing on Monday, has also declined due to the decrease in the force of the ‘Aati’ rain. However, most of the rivers in the district continue to flow with muddy water as it rained heavily in the upstream areas.
Famous pilgrim centre Subrahmanya has been an island for the past two days as the Kumaradhara bridge on Uppinangady-Subrahmanya road has been submerged under water due to heavy rains.
Schools and colleges functioned only till noon and later closed. Many areas in Puttur town were covered by rain water. According to the Disaster Control Room in Sullia, no untoward incident has been registered in the taluk.
Arabian Sea has continued to witness gusty winds, as a result of which mighty waves are overpowering the seashore. Sea erosion has increased in places like Bengre, Padukere, Gujjarabettu, Maravanthe in Udupi district.
