Protesting the irregularities in ration card distribution, a large number of activists led by organisations like Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) and Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane (JMS) gheraoed the Tahsildar’s office here on Monday.
The organisations have put a deadline of 15 days to set right the irregularities. Mangalore Tahsildar assured of opening separate counters in DC’s office (for city people) and Taluk office (for rural peopisfy the activists, who later pressed for in person clarifications from the Assistant Director of Food and Civil Supplies.
Owing to the continued demand of the protesters, the Aundreds of activists held a jatha from the Deputy Commissioner’s office and gheraoed the Tahsildar’s office.
The heavy rain that lashed throughout the day did not have any effect on the enthusiasm of the protesters. The answers of the Tahsildar did not satle) to solve any problems regarding the ration cards.

DYFI leaders Ashok Konchady, Shashidhar K Shaktinagar, Dayanand Shetty, Mahabala Shetty, JMS’s Prameela, Bharathi, KPRS’s Srinivas Shetty and others werealso pressurised the tahsildar to unearth all black market business in kerosene being carried out across the city and confiscate those fair price shops which refused to provide ration to the BPL card holders.
The Tahslidar promised of tracing such shops in the city which have indulged in the kerosene racket. DYFI district head Muneer Katipalla, KPRS District General Secretary Yadav both the officials to set right all the problems regarding the ration cards on the spot.
Finally, the Tahsildar promised that any irregularity in the system would be corrected within the next 15 days.
