Veteran Yakshagana artiste Madhuru Ganapathi Rao was honoured with Bolur Dogra Poojary Memorial Yakshagana Award at a function held at Town Hall here on Tuesday. Bolur Dogra Poojary Smaraka Yakshagana Kendra organised the award ceremony.
In his reply to the honour, Mr Rao, who has an experience of serving for Yakshagana field for about 50 years, said: “Let job be your god, and it will give you all returns, even if you do not expect.”
Speaking on the occasion, St Aloysius College Kannada faculty Dr Ganesh Amin Sankamar said the felicitation offered to Mr Rao is a honour done for the entire Yakshagana community, as artistes like late Poojary or Mr Rao are the assets of the entire society.
State Co-operative Apex Bank President M N Rajendra Kumar, who felicitated Mr Rao and presided over the function, expressed concerns over the decaying interest of youth towards Yakshagana.
Yakshagana artistes M M C Rai, Damodar Nisarga among others were present. ‘Atikaya Kalaga’, a Yakshagana Taalamaddale was staged later, with the participation of senior artistes.
