Rain continued to lash Kodagu district even on Tuesday. Though intensity of rainfall had decreased to some extent on Tuesday morning after raining cats and dogs on Monday night, it gained momentum later.
Due to the heavy rains on Monday night, the river, ponds and streams too are overflowing. In the last 24 hours, Talacauvery received a maximum of 273 mm rainfall while Bhagamandala recorded 255.4 mm rainfall.
In Bhagamandala, the intensity of rainfall has remained the same, while on Bhagamandala-Madikeri and Bhagamandala-Ayyangeri-Napoklu road the flow of water has remained at the same level. Water has entered the fields in and around Bhagamandala, thus causing hindrances in cultivation of paddy seedlings.
Moreover, at some places rain water has washed away paddy seedlings which were planted. Since paddy and jowar fields are surrounded by water everywhere, farmers have no other option but to plant the seedlings once again.
The flow of water in Lakshmanateertha has increased as there was no let-up in rain in Kutta of Shreemangala in south Kodagu region.
As Madikeri, Madapura, Galibeedu and other regions received good amount of rainfall, there was an inflow of 9,017 cusecs of water in Harangi reservoir on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, 9,771 cusecs of water was released from the reservoir. In the past 24 hours, Kutta has received 150 mm rainfall, Shreemangala received 119.6 mm, Virajpete 106.8 mm, Somwarpete 85.2 mm, Napoklu 140 mm and Madikeri recorded the highest rainfall of 146.4 mm.
