Measures will be taken to build a hanging bridge at Bhagamandala town to link Madikeri road to face the eventuality of link roads getting cut off due to floods caused by the overflowing Cauvery river, said MLA K G Bopaiah.
Speaking to presspersons after assessing the damages in Karike-Bhagamandala and Talacauvery region in Madikeri taluk caused due to heavy rains, he said Bhagamandala is cut off from other regions every year due to incessant rains at Talacauvery which causes floods in Cauvery river.
This causes inconveniences to the residents in the region and hence the initiative has been taken to build a hanging bridge from Madikeri road to Bhagandeshwara Temple in Bhagamandala.
The Bandikadavu road and bridge near Bhagamandala has completely damaged. The tender process of Rs 85 lakh for bridge and road development works was completed last year itself.
However, the works were stranded due to certain technical snags. To solve these problems, the issue will be discussed with the Minister for Public Works after the rainy season.
The MLA who inspected the Karike-Bhagamandala road where landslides had occurred, directed the officials in Public Works department to supply building materials for conducting repair works and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
He assured that a project for Bhagamandala-Karike road development will soon be chalked out and works will start at the earliest. Due to heavy rains in Madikeri Taluk, the roads which come under the Zilla Panchayat have suffered losses to the tune of Rs 4 crore.
The district administration has already submitted its report on rain damages to the State government. He expressed hope that the government will release the compensation soon.
As per the directions of the State government, a team from the Mines and Geological Department arrived to find out the cause for the landslides and studied the area. The team will submit its report to the government soon.
Zilla Panchayat Vice-President B C Neelamma, member Manumuttappa, Taluk Panchayat President Taloor Kishorekumar, Vice-President Manoj Mandanna, BJP leader Ravikushalappa, Ravibasappa and officials from various departments participated.
