The court admitted a PIL seeking a direction to City Police Commissioner to strictly implement the Licensing and Controlling of Places of Public Entertainment Order 2005 and to ‘close’ six discotheques in Bangalore.
Adam Sait, a City resident, stated in the plea that though police had been strictly enforcing the Order “against all restaurants,” they had not taken any action against “six restaurants -- Zero G Pvt Ltd, Fusion Loungue, Taika, Nyx, Blue Bar and Beach Restaurant -- running discotheques without licence”. He also sought steps to stop live bands at these restaurants.
Plea against ORR
Karnataka State SC, ST, Minorities and Backward Classes Progressive Federation and two other residents have sought an HC order against the execution of the six-lane Outer Ring Road project conceived by Bangalore Development Authority.
The petitioners stated that BDA had proposed to construct the ORR, including two service roads to connect Mysore Road with Magadi Road, at a cost of Rs 92 crore and the Government had declared it to have been completed. Now, BDA has granted a contract for constructing an ORR costing 50 crores “as if it were a different project”.
The court posted the matter for August 1, while allowing BDA to file a statement as to how much work has already been executed.
