Dear Sir,
I am in the final year BBM. In the I and II semesters I secured 62%. I am confused whether I should join MBA or ICWAI. I took BBM with the intention of joining MBA. At present the scope of MBA is good, but after 2 or 3 years what will be its scope?
Are marks important to get a good job or are skills, knowledge and communication preferred in the job market?
Praveen G
Dear Praveen,
You have to check the scope not after 2 or 3 years, but even after 30 or 40 years, which will be the minimum span of your working life. ICWAI is the Institute that certifies you as a Cost and Works Accountant. You may work towards its qualifying exams if you feel you are mathe-logically strong, and would like a career in pure accountancy work. You need good analytical skills, concentration and computer skills. On the other hand, move towards MBA if you are more people-oriented, have good communication and leadership ability, and an exploratory mind. Both have equally good scope if you are good in the respective work.
Dear Sir,
I am a II PU student of commerce. I have scored 97% in my I PU. I would like to pursue my MBA in marketing or finance after my graduation. Please guide me about the graduation course that I have to opt after my PU. Should I choose B.Com or BBM? What is the difference between these two degrees? Meanwhile, I would also like to know about the courses which I can complete during my graduation. I would like to know more about the exams like ACS, ICWA, CA etc.

Dear Anonymous,
B.Com takes you deeper into the finance and accounts functions, while BBM gives you an overview of all management areas from finance to HR, marketing and administration. If you feel you are more inclined towards marketing, then a BBM or BBA will be a better choice.
If you are likely to go towards finance, then you may take up B.Com and spend the extra free time studying for Chartered Accountancy or Company Secretaryship. You are eligible for the foundation or Professional Aptitude Tests as soon as you complete your 2nd PUC.
Dear Sir,
I finished my PUC II with 80 per cent this year. My CET rank is 16508. I got a seat in electronics in a good college in Bangalore through COMEDK. I am planning to wait for the casual round. But I am still in a dilemma as to which branch to finally decide on. I am very interested in biotech or biomedical or medical electronics provided I get a good college but I don't know if these subjects have any scope in India.
Deepika,
Bangalore
Dear Deepika,
Yes, these branches, though much lesser known, do have immense potential. If you have an interest and inclination towards biology or medical fields, you can go in for any of these courses, which are gaining importance. As you have rightly said, give importance to the college you select. Do not go by just the campus recruitment, but check seniority and capability of teaching staff, the computers and other labs, quality of students, and the type of campus the college has.
Dear Sir,
I am in the 3rd year of a Hotel Management course. But, I am not interested in pursuing this course. I want to do automobile engineering after completing my hotel management course. Will it affect my career?
Manjunath U
Dear Manjunath,
You will have to give up four years of your study if you start afresh with Automobile Engineering. It may be more prudent to move towards management and then seek an entry in the automobile industry. With an MBA, you can choose which field you would like to work in, and you can be part of the automobile industry in marketing, customer support, project management, production or any other non-technical field.
Dear Sir,
I have done my BCom and am working in a private organisation. Since the time I was young, I love kids (toddlers) very much and I am interested in doing a Montessori course / Training which can help me serve as a full time Montessori teacher. I am not too sure if i will be in India for the next 3-4 years as I am getting married and going abroad, so I am looking for an organisation / centre where the Montessori Certification is valid globally.
Kavitha B S,
Bangalore
Dear Kavitha,
The Indian Montessori Centre carries a good reputation as it has been running training programmes since decades. It is a one year, rigorous full time course which you will have to do by quitting your job. You can contact them on phone 80-23467993 or on their web-site www.indianmontessoricenre.org
Dear Sir,
I have just completed my BBA from DAV college Chandigarh with 59.76% marks. I want to do MBA but do not have any entrance exam score (like CAT, MAT etc.) Also I do not wish to drop a year because of this reason. Are there any good colleges in India where I can get admission preferably where the college has some scheme of sending its students abroad for gaining international experience?
A S Bhambra
Dear Bhambra,
Most colleges that offer an international MBA or a degree from a foreign university have their own intake. Though they give preference to those with good CAT or MAT scores, it is not essential. However, the good ones have already closed their admissions and classes have begun. At this juncture you may only find some left-over seat in a college that has not yet built up a reputation. Or you will have to apply next year, and if so you can even appear for CAT and MAT.
