Leopard dies at rescue centre
A full-grown male leopard died inside a cage at a rescue centre in West Bengal after hundreds of tea garden workers poked it constantly with sharp weapons and bamboo sticks, media reports said on Tuesday.
The leopard started bleeding profusely in the small cage but no forest department official took steps to stop the torture or provide treatment to the injured animal, the reports said.
The leopard had been taken to the rescue centre after it walked into a trap at the Betguri tea estate in Malbazar area last Friday. It died on Sunday, officials said.
