The Akshaya Patra Foundation is set to serve mid-day meal to one million school children with serving food to students in government schools of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
A press statement of the Foundation stated that the Bangalore-based Akshaya Patra is “reaching nearer to its goal of feeding one million school children every day”. Akshaya Patra is currently serving over 7,50,000 children in 13 locations and six states- Karnataka, Rajasthan, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.
The Foundation, devoted to provide nutritious food to students, launched its services in Gujarat in mid-June.
The Foundation has signed an MoU with the Government of Gujarat to feed around 47000 students in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. By mid-July, the Foundation has crossed the estimated number of beneficiaries and now it is feeding about 51,000 children.
The innovative kitchen facility at Gandhinagar has the first of its kind chapathi-making machine in Gujarat, which can role out 12,000 chapathis in one hour, the release added.
