Of broken rules, roads

Double standards
The BMTC shows double standard when it comes to its commuters by equipping good quality Pushpak buses with clear boards for affluent groups like IT/BT companies and educational institutions. The latest Volvo buses with glass windows are maintained well without any ads to hamper the commuters’ view. But most of the buses like the Parisara Vahini flaunt gaudy ads on the windows. These buses do not carry first aid boxes also. The drivers and conductors of these buses also need to be courteous. Reserved seats should not be entertained in the Volvo buses and separate space should be provided for dumping luggage.

Public menace
Bangaloreans are fed up of frequent traffic jams. Although the roads are being widened, the auto or tempo stands built by local leaders and corporators are proving a menace for motorists and pedestrians. These sheds are being used regularly by beggars and vendors.

Bad road
The entire Kathriguppe road and the entrance to the ITI layout are filled with garbage. Moreover, ITI layout entrance is constantly being dug up by BWSSB to attend to some leakage. School children who take this narrow road to the school have to bear this foul smell. This road needs to be attended to urgently.

Grave problem
R T Nagar is one of the fastest developing residential areas with a number of apartments and other buildings coming up. There is a graveyard near the Ambedkar Medical College Main road. It is a busy area and a compound wall was built around the graveyard by BMP recently to restrict further cremations. But unfortunately, people are still using it for cremation purpose. The BMP should realise that the residents are afraid to stay close to the graveyard. We, therefore, request the BMP to immediately ban cremations and convert it into a park.

Water scarcity
Ramamurthy Nagar residents are suffering due to lack of drinking water. Eventhough, BWSSB has laid pipes, people are yet to get water from Cauvery 4th stage. Underground drainage work, which is yet to commence, was a major project initiated by the previous government. We appeal to the authorities is to finish the project without further delay

Welfare Association Misuse of property
The residents near Sri Ragavendra Swami Marriage Hall, Kuvempunagar, were surprised to find a sodium vapour bulb fitted to a lamp post was not in its proper direction. On enquiry, it was revealed that this bulb was originally fitted to a pole on the junction of 13th Cross of Aniketana Road and New Kantharaja Urs Road. But the owner of a private tours and travels firm, which is near this junction got this sodium vapour bulb removed and fitted to the lamp post right opposite his house to ensure that his house, vehicles and a huge signboard he has installed illegally on the footpath get more ‘colour and light’. Is this sodium vapour bulb meant for the private use of the tours and travels firm owner?
