Seven persons of two families were killed in a landslide triggered by torrential rain in Guwahati early in the morning on Thursday.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) C K Bhuyan said the two ill-fated families lived in shanties just below a hillock at Ganesh Nagar area in the city.
The heavy downpour overnight triggered a landslide from the hillock and all the seven persons of both the families were buried alive.
Rescue work
It took the rescue workers almost the entire day to dig out the seven corpses.
The Deputy Director General of Meteorology R P Samui said that the city had recorded 47.3 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
