Maintenance of district stadium
Proposal awaits nod

Developmental plans of Rs 105,41,538 lakhs has been chalked out for the outdoor stadium of which Rs 10 lakhs will be utilised to provide drainage around the stadium.


A proposal has been submitted to the Department of Youth Services secretary to approve utilisation of the funds allotted for the construction of an indoor stadium towards maintanence of the District stadium which is in a deplorable condition.

The State government had released Rs 1 crore during 2006-07 for the construction of indoor stadium in Madikeri, which could not be taken up due to space constrains and hence Sports departmnt commissioner said that the same amount could as well be utilised for upgradation and maintenance of the District outdoor stadium.

Sources from the department said that developmental plans of Rs 105,41,538 lakhs has been chalked out for the outdoor stadium of which Rs 10 lakhs will be utilised to provide drainage around the stadium, Rs 5 lakhs to provide proper roofing to avoid stagnation of water on the ceiling of spectators’ gallery and Rs 1.31 lakhs to provide entrance from east side of the stadium.

Apart from this, Rs 20 lakhs has been set aside in the plan for renovation of the present spectators’ gallery and Rs 23,60,568 to lay 400 mts tracks in the stadium.

A sum of Rs 50,000 will used to provide courts for various outdoor games and Rs 45 lakhs will be utilised for the renovation of old swimming pool.
