Could there be a better way to spend a Sunday than listening to some excellent acoustic music?
91.9 fm Radio Indigo put together an exclusive platform for young acoustic artistes at St John’s Amphitheatre, Koramangala. Indigo Acoustic, held over the weekend served as an opening for aspiring musicians who are in college or have passed out in the last two years.
“There are so many platforms for rock compared to acoustic. Most of the college crowd is into acoustic music and we wanted to acknowledge their talent.” said Ayesha D’ Souza, the host for the event and an RJ of Radio Indigo.
The contest was conducted keeping four categories in mind, Instrumental, Vocal solo, Vocal duo, Group or Acappella. About 15 colleges participated in the music fest. The prelimnary round took place on Saturday and 12 finalists from Solo, Duo and group were chosen for Sunday. The instrumental participants had to wait till Sunday for their first performance.
Sunday afternoon kicked off with the instrumental performers. Abhimanyu, Sylvester, Dwayne and Jarvis showed off their guitaring skills while Judah Sandy and his accompanying artiste got the crowd going with their spot composition piano and percussion performance.
Then came the Vocal soloists. Five finalists from different colleges took centre stage and performed to the best of their abilities. Next was the vocal duo’s turn. Students from Christ, St Josephs and St John’s medical college formed the final three. Finally the group performances.
Leftover, PYJ, JNC acoustic team and the St Joseph College of Commerce team proved that A cappella can still be lots of fun.
The crowd looked its liveliest during ‘Turn your radio on’ by the JNC acoustic team, ‘La Bamba’ by SJCC, ‘Lean on me’ by PYJ and ‘I got’ by Leftover. Other songs that brought about a great deal of enthusiasm was the A cappella version of Summer of ‘69, More than words by the St Joesph’s duo Jason and Neville, Friends forever by Judah Sandy, Try by Swati and Strong enough by Christ’s Sindhuja and Naina.
