Manipal Speciality Hospital, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, launched an awareness campaign on “Accident care and emergency care”, by flagging off a “road safety week”.
A release quotes DCP (North) P Sampath Kumar, as saying, “Events like this should be encouraged to prevent increasing road traffic accidents. The police alone is not responsible for safety, safety measures should come from society at large.” Dr Nagendra Swamy, the group medical director of Manipal Health Systems said, “This campaign is aimed at helping people drive safe and know where to reach in case of emergency.”About 25 bikers distributed handbills with information on emergency helpline numbers and accident prevention at shopping complexes, schools, Bangalore University campus, temples and other public places.
Some first aid tips:
Your first priority should be to save a life; Even in case of injury to the head or abdomen rush victim for medical aid; If there’s a broken neck, never move person around, for it may lead to permanent paralysis; In case of accident, check breathing; Obstruction to airways can be diagnosed from the colour of the lips, breathing sounds and feeling expelled air on your cheek; If the breathing is absent, give a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation - take a deep breath, pinch victim's nostrils, seal victim’s mouth with yours and blow into lungs till you see his chest rising; When bleeding, direct hand or thumb pressure over the wound and retain pressure for no more than 15 minutes; In case of a burns victim, do not remove any burnt clothing, but cover the area with clean material.
