Sunday date with Sureshs Artha

Under its monthly Film Appreciation Workshop Series, in an express effort to inculcate better film appreciation and infuse deeper and critical understanding of good cinema, Sine Maathu, this Sunday, has scheduled the screening of award-winning Kannada film Artha.

Written,  scripted and directed by B Suresh with cinematography by S Ramachandra, the film, spotlights on communal flare-ups that happen in society and looks at the problem through the eyes of Seenappa, an autorickshaw driver. Saddled with a huge loan, and burdened with having to make the two ends meet, Seenappa behaves boorishly and violently with his wife and son. As a result the father and son do not meet eye to eye. Further, adding to the father’s fury son Srikanth gets involved in a movement which is against anything foreign. The father learns of a peaceful march in town being led by Srikanth. He goes to witness the same, but soon another rival faction appears and the confrontation between the two groups leads to communal riot in the city.
Being conducted under the guidance of eminent Kannada film director Girish Kasaravalli, participants will be conducted through discussion with film’s director, artists and other experts after the screening, the proceedings will be recorded for analysis later.

Those interested can participate paying fee of Rs 50. Screening 5 pm at Sine Maathu,  K V Subbanna Aaptha Rangamandira, 151, 7th cross, I Stage, Teachers Colony, Opp to Vasudha Bhavan, Near Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering.
