Deputy Commissioner S Selvakumar instructed the officials concerned to supply quality food grains for preparation of Bisi Oota (mid day meals) in government schools.
He was holding a food security meeting involving officials of various departments, here on Saturday. In view of the complaints that worms were found in rice and pulses, he directed that care be taken to supply quality food grains for mid day meals and that immediate steps be taken to set right lapses in this regard.
Mr Selvakumar also instructed the officials to make sure that bags of grains weigh as mentioned when one of them complained that the 50 kg bags of rice and pulses were found two to three kgs short. The officials expressed the view that the quantity of salt prescribed by the government, 2 gms per meal, was not adequate and the same has to be increased. However, the officer concerned said that salt could be used to taste.
Complaints were also aired that it was difficult to provide mid day meals if the food grains were not supplied before the fifth of every month.
