The agitation by Municipal workers for the past 16 days intensified on Saturday when they staged a dharna in front of MLA S M Muniyappa’s house.
The protesters alleged that the workers who played an important role in keeping the city clean and maintaining its cleanliness, were being neglected. The coalition government was not responding to their reasonable demands, they said.
The agitating municipal workers wanted the legislator to bring the issue to the notice of the government, thereby fulfilling his promise to the people.
Memorandum
After sitting in dharna for more than two hours, the protesters submitted a memorandum to Mr Muniyappa. Addressing the workers, the MLA informed them that the coalition government had already been apprised of the matter. The government is expected to make a statement on Monday in this regard, he added.
The protest was led by State Municipal Workers’ Association director D R Nanjundappa, Taluk unit chief C Krishna, secretary Munikrishnappa and Manjunath, Jnanamba, M Venkatesh, K N Girish Babu and Ramachandra of the district unit among others.
