Municipal workers’ protest entered 6 day, here on Saturday, demanding the Government to extend the recommendations of 5 Pay Commission even to municipal workers.
The workers held ‘broom rally’ from City Municipal Office and later staged dharna in front of MLA K Sreenivasa Gowda’s residence. Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti of Kolar Unit also supported the strike.
They demanded the government to implement the recommendations of 5 pay commission even to municipal workers and resolve the problems of daily wage workers. Their other demands include banning of tender system and regularisation of services.
Public are in deep trouble as the workers have stopped the supply of water as part of protest from Saturday Morning. Karnataka Pranthya Raitha Sangha, CPI (M )Auto Drivers Association, Lorry Owners Association and Beedi Workers Association supported the strike.
Activists of Kartaka Rakshana Vedike also participated in the strike.
The workers have requested the public to cooperate with them despite their inconvenience.
The protest was led by Association District President Subrahamani, Venkatesh. CPI (M) leader Narayanaswamy, Sri Ramu, and others were present on the occasion.
Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti has also extended their support to the strike.
Though the the protest has entered the 6 day, the government has not even responded to their demands, said Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti District Convener V Narayanaswamy. He urged the government to resolve their problems as soon as possible. Sulikunte Ramesh, Naganala Muniyappa, T Jayaram, D Chikkanna, Tondala Narayanaswamy have also supported the strike.
Karnataka State Ahinda Association, Kolar unit, has also extended their support to the strike.
As their demands are genuine, the government should make an honest attempt towards resolving their problems,said Association District President Rajanna.
Speaking to reporters in charge Deputy Commissioner K S Suryanarayan Rao said alternative measures have been taken garbage dumping and water supply. A task force has been formed for water supply, following government’s order.
Task force
The task force has been formed with the cooperation of City water Supply, Zilla Panchayat Engineers Department, Public Workers Department, Tahsildar. Prominence will be given to water supply, he added. “We have decided to supply water through 21 tankers”, he informed.
The authority concerned has started control room to help people during emergency times. Public can contact 22005 at emergency time.
Urban Development Department Project Director Ramakrishna, City Municipal Commissioner Ramachandra were present on the occasion.
