Are politicians globe-trotting in vain? Bit by bit yesterday's trauma is today not what it was. Can we doubt that there is world-wide a coarsening of our reaction to a vast human tragedy, to the deceit and irresponsibility that caused it, to a heightened sense of instability, to the escalation of violence, and to the contemptuous indifference to law and order and respect for justice?
