Potter off shelves due to price war
Three major book stores in Malaysia have decided to withdraw 53,000 copies of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows from their shelves in protest over ‘price under-cutting’ by several hypermarkets.
This means that Harry Potter’s die hard fans would not be able to purchase the latest book on the adventure series from MPH, Popular and Times book stores, when it is officially released for sale.
MPH chief operating officer Patricia Chen said here on Friday that they were protesting against moves by certain hypermarkets to sell the hard cover book written by English author J K Rowlings at a lower price than the recommended retail price.
Bomb scare mars launch in Pak
Pakistani police defused a car bomb outside a shopping mall in Karachi overnight, forcing a book shop to cancel the launch of the latest Harry Potter book on Saturday. Two boxes containing between 10 and 12 kg of RDX explosive were found inside a stolen Suzuki car.
