A committee of High Court judges inspected the construction of the Circuit Bench building in Water and Land Management Institute premises in Dharwad on Saturday and expressed satisfaction at the progress and quality of work.
Later, the committee visited the newly built District Court in Dharwad to study the feasibility of starting the Circuit Bench there as an alternate measure until the Circuit Bench building is ready. The committee comprised chairman Justice S R Bannurmath and members Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice K Sridhar Rao.
At the District Court, Justice Bannurmath told reporters that there was good progress on the construction of Circuit Bench building.
Occupancy date
The committee was in Dharwad to ascertain the number of days it would take for the building to be occupied as completion of construction work did not necessarily mean the building was ready to house the Circuit Bench. The building had to be furnished before being occupied and that would take time, he said.
A report would be submitted to Karnataka Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph about the feasibility of housing the Circuit Bench in the District Court on July 30 or 31.
“Satisfactory”, “good” and well designed is how he described the quarters for judges.
The committee will be visiting Gulbarga on August 5 to inspect work on the Circuit Bench building there.
Justice Bannurmath said, the committee’s brief included reviewing the status of construction of the Circuit Bench buildings, time required for their completion and intermediate arrangements to be made until the buildings were ready.
LAN
At Walmi premises, Justice Bannurmath instructed Rao Constructions, which is constructing the building, to ensure that all rooms in the building had local area network connectivity.
The committee later held a meeting with contractors to know the exact time by which the building could be occupied.
