Describing implementation of power projects, management of power transmission and distribution in the State as “innovative and model” to other states, the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has announced that its is ready to offer upto Rs 75,000 crore financial assistance to power projects in Karnataka during 11th and 12th plan period.
Addressing the 38th Foundation Day celebrations of the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), Mr V K Garg, Chairman and Managing Director of PFC, said the financial assistance would be offered depending upon the proposal by the State agencies, like the Electricity Supply Companies, KPCL, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited.
Speaking at the function Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy urged the heads of various central power organisations to ensure supply of coal and gas for the power projects in the State which are waiting gas for Bidadi power plant and coal supply for different thermal power projects having capacity to generate 3,000 mega unit of power.
He also requested the Centre to consider the 1,000 MW Bellary thermal power project being implemented by the KPCL as a mega power project as such an approval would enable the KPCL to get fiscal concessions. Talking to newsmen, the chief minister blamed the previous governments for not giving importance for power generation.
He also came down heavily on environmentalists for opposing power projects taken up in the interest of people of the State.
