The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) was founded with well articulated socio-economic objectives towards the infrastructure development of the country, said Mr M K Bhattacharya, Executive Director of VISL.
Addressing the students after distributing 40 sets of steel desks and benches to Government Higher Primary School at Hiriyur village in the taluk on Friday, he said SAIL is not only concentrating on producing quality steels, but also aimed at performing social activities.
Realising the need of facility to the teachers who were shaping the future citizen, chairs and tables would also be provided to them.
Mr P Sahay, General Manager, (P&A) of VISL said that SAIL had initiated the socio-economic development on the guidelines laid down by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He called upon the school management to explore avenues to improve school facilities.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) S L Chavan said on August 15, 2005, the plant was instrumental in helping the schools to the tune of Rs 25 lakh. This year it has begun with providing nearly 300 sets of benches and desks worth Rs 5 lakh.
