Percussive Arts Centre is organising its 26th annual Thaalavaadyotsav festival from July 26 to 29 at Seva Sadana, 14th Cross, Malleshwaram. Several eminent scholars, musicians, musicologists and others will be participating in the festival.
The following lifetime achievement awards will be given on the occasion: Mridanga Vidwan Mavelikara K Velukutty Nair (Palghat Mani Iyer memorial award); Khanjari Vidwan Sosale Seshagiri Das (Palani Subramanya Pillai memorial award), art critic S N Chandrashekhar (Bangalore K Venkataram memorial award).
Youth awards will be presented to the following: B Dhruvaraj for mridangam (H Puttachar memorial award); U N Giridhar Udupa for ghatam (Carnatic Music Association of North America prize). All awards will be presented on the valedictory of the festival at 10 am. Pandit Rajshekhar Mansur, President, Karnataka Sangeeth Nrithya Academy will deliver the valedictory address and present the awards.
Performances during the festival include vocal duet by Hyderabad Brothers - Raghavachari and Seshachari; violin duet by Mysore M Nagaraj and Mysore M Manjunath; vocal recital by Prof Mysore Nagamani Srinath. There will be special percussion performances by Sthree Thaal Tarang directed by Sukanya Ramgopal; Laya Vrushti directed by Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma; percussion solo by Mavelikara K Velukutty Nair; percussion duet by K U Jayachandra Rao and G Omkar among other performances. Programmes will be held on all days in the evening from 6 pm onwards.
