The Telugu Desam Party has lodged a complaint with the Bellary police against the Andhra Pradesh police for their alleged harassment of the party MLAs. They accused the AP police of harassing 25 MLAs at Obalpuram Mining Company, on the AP border, on Saturday. The mine belongs to G Janardhana Reddy, member of Karnataka Legislative Council.
According to Mr Nagam Janardhana Reddy, TDP leader, the AP police arrested MLAs before they entered the mine and harassed them on the Karnataka soil. He requested the Bellary police to register his complaint against the Andhra police.
However, the Karnataka police said arrests were made in Andhra Pradesh and therefore the complaint cannot be registered in Karnataka.
Mr Reddy had a long debate with SP Amrut Pal and ASP Sandeep Patil and said he had been injured in the incident. He also had the support of local JD (S) leader Mulangi Ravindra Babu, who was present at the police station.
The police received the complaint letter, but did not register it. They said they would take necessary action after confirming the area falls under their jurisdiction. Later, Nagam Janardhan Reddy told reporters he would write to the National Human Rights Commission and the Andhra PradeshGovernor on the alleged atrocities by the AP police.
However, G Janardhana Reddy said the MLAs allegedly misbehaved with the police personnel, leaving them with no choice but to retaliate. He also said the TDP leaders did not accord him the courtesy of keeping him informed about their visit to the mine.
