Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP), world’s third largest personal computer maker, on Monday said it would acquire Opsware Inc. for $1.6 billion in a deal that bolsters HP’s line-up of business software offerings.
The per-share price is $14.25, the company said on Monday in a statement. The price is 39 per cent more than Opsware’s closing stock price on July 20.
Data centres
Opsware makes programmes that manage data centres for clients such as JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Target Corp. Hewlett-Packard has added to its software unit with purchases of companies including Mercury Interactive Corp. and Peregrine Systems Inc.
The tender offer is subject to a number of closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close before the end of HP’s fourth fiscal quarter.
