Dogs maul 4-yr-old girl
Bangalore, DHNS:
A four-year-old girl was mauled by a pack of dogs at Mariyannanapalya, in BBMP limits.

A four-year-old girl was mauled by a pack of dogs at Mariyannanapalya, in BBMP limits.

BBMP officials said around 10 dogs attacked Pavithra in an open field near her house.  The dogs were dragging away the child when the people nearby drove them away by throwing stones at them, they said.

Pavithra, whose parents are construction workers, sustained injuries on both legs and the chest. She was rushed to a private hospital. “The girl is out of danger. We have administered anti-rabies vaccine to her,” BBMP health officer Dr Balasundar said.Soon after the incident, residents staged a protest and blamed the BBMP for its “inaction” in controlling stray dog menace. They dubbed the ABC programme a “flop” and that the dog population had not come down. Dr Balasundar said dog experts have been carrying out ABC programme in Dasarahalli panchayat area under the new ‘Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release (CNVR) system.  So far, 1,000 stray dogs have been vaccinated, he said.
