We meet some opinionated persons, who have their set opinions on certain things and would not budge an inch and would not change at all come what may. We also find some who keep changing their opinions as swiftly as a weathercock in a disturbed weather condition.
They are not sure of themselves and allow themselves to be swayed by the opinion of others. They have no principles by which they stand.
They say God is unchanging. He is ever the same. He is true to his word. In fact his name is connected with "Fidelity". He keeps his promises. If he has told you that he loves you and cares for you, you can be sure that he will always care for you and love you: "Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever" (Ps 136.1; the whole psalm is beautiful and recounts how God has been steadfast in the past.
Other psalms also speak of the psalmist's confidence that God who has helped him in the past would help him also now when he is facing trying situations). Psalms 56 & 57 are also worth praying over.
The psalmist is surrounded by many dangers but he is not afraid because God's steadfast love is always there for him and so he is all set and ready with thanksgiving to God, ready on his lips.
This shows the psalmist's faith in the unchanging God. So one way by which a fickle-minded person overcomes his pitiable situation is by totally relying on the unchanging God.
In any discussion or consideration, many ideas are floated: some are bizarre and some are acceptable; it becomes irksome when only one party wishes to impose its opinion on others and want them to sign on the dotted line.
Even here sometimes it is feasible when the one so suggesting is transparent in his love and care for the other but if it only means taking advantage of the weak then it becomes harsh and cruel.
God is precisely one who loves and cares for us and does not abandon us at any time. Therefore it is good that we learn to love him truly and trust in him and remain faithful to him because he indeed is faithful and unchanging in his love for us.
So let the world go round and round; let everything around us appear to be going topsy-turvy.
Let my trusted human friends disappoint or disappear, let my counsellors try to mislead me, why let the whole world call me a fool and yet I will not be moved because the God who loves and cares for me is with me. So what say you?
